"Hi, I'm Ashleigh Gass, strength and conditioning specialist with brilliantathlete.com. So foods that are high in HDL. Well, HDL is high-density lipoprotein, and this is the...this is one form of cholesterol, usually known as the good cholesterol. And it's not what foods are high in, but it's actually how to make sure that these levels remain high as you get older. Now, this type of cholesterol... First of all, cholesterol is extremely important in our body. We produce it for a reason, and most of it has to do with production of steroid hormones. So cholesterol isn't something that you want to suppress the production of. You actually just want to make sure that your diet lends itself to the formation of healthy cholesterol rather than the oxidation of cholesterol, which is really what becomes more of a challenge. So if your diet is rich in processed junk food and lacking in fruits and vegetables, your cholesterol profile's probably starting to go a bit off the charts. However, if you want to improve this type of cholesterol, start to add healthy fats to your diet, like olive oil, flax oil, flaxseeds, fish oil, any kind of nut butter that's organic. You get the idea. Healthy proteins and healthy carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, dark green vegetables. Just slowly start to increase your intake of vegetables because most people's diets are very low in them, and what you'll find over time is that HDL will start to improve and your overall cholesterol profile will really begin to improve, and your doctor will be very happy with you.
