Video Transcript

"Hello my name is Dr. Sian Evans. I am a scientist at Monkey Jungle in Miami, Florida. In this clip we are going to talk about how monkeys survive. Most people think of monkeys as living in rain forests and most monkeys do live in rain forests and they think of rain forests as being an abundant source of food where the living is easy. Nothing can be further from the truth. Monkeys have to work very hard to put together a well balanced diet to survive. Some monkeys do this by eating a food source that is plentiful but not necessarily very nutritious like leaves while others feed on ripe fruits. Those monkeys that have to feed on ripe fruits have to travel long distances every day to find the fruiting sources and they have to have complex navigational maps in order to move around the rain forest speedily enough to consume enough food on a daily basis. This has been Dr. Sian Evans."
