Hello my name is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, board certified dermatologist and author of Six Weeks to Sensational Skin. This clip is about what to know about becoming a dermatologist. Dermatologists are actually people who have a wonderful career where they treat people's skin, nails and hair. What it takes to become one is that we first go to four years of college and that would be taking a premedical course where we take a whole lot of calculus, chemistry, physics, and all of that. We then go through regular medical school which is another four years and then we do a minimum of four years of post graduate training. These days because dermatology is such a popular training program many of the people who enter the post graduate training have done an additional one to two years of laboratory research before they begin their dermatology residency. If you are someone who is contemplating becoming a dermatologist I urge you to think about pursuing some laboratory research early on in your college or medical school career to help you secure a position in a wonderful field.
