"Hello my name is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, board certified dermatologist and author of Six Weeks to Sensational Skin. In this clip we're going to talk about can apple cider vinegar helpfully clear your acne lesions. And many people may have heard some what they believe is an old wives tale or they may of heard from family and friends that they took some apple cider vinegar from the grocery store or their own kitchen cabinet and they were able to rid themselves of acne breakouts. You may wonder how can that possibly be and is there any validity to it. What you should know is that vinegar is very chemically related to something that we dermatologists often use for the treatment of acne and this is glycolic acid. Glycolic acid which is one of the alpha hydroxy acids is a very powerful acne treatment. So if you happen to have mild acne and especially if you have just a little bit of that acne, you may want to take the related compound of apple cider vinegar which is very similar in structure to glycolic acid and apply it first just to your acne breakouts. If you find that your skin doesn't have any bad reaction and in fact it helps your acne, then you may consider putting the apple cider vinegar on your face and washing it off after 10 minutes. It may help not only to rid you of acne but to prevent new breakouts. This is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo."
