Hi I'm Trina Sims of Green Star Herbs and today I'm going to talk a little bit about the master cleanse. The master cleanse started as a dietary program developed by Stanley Burrows in 1941. It has since been popularized in a range of books and diet programs. The basic formula is eight ounces of clean water, the juice of half an organic lemon, a tablespoon of dark maple syrup or molasses and that is dark maple syrup, not the light amber one and a quarter, an eight or a quarter teaspoon of cayenne pepper. This cleanse can be used short term for only a day or two to give our digestive systems and bodies in general a rest or if we start in a healthy and well rested condition it can be used for as long as 30 days or more. Of course if you are going to use it long term you want to watch for any sort of signs of depletion or exhaustion. The master cleanse contains enough nutrition to keep us going and provide us with energy for a while while allowing the body to rest and detoxify from our usually overloaded and over fed state. It is simple to prepare, generally safe if you start in good health and can be used as I have mentioned to suit your own purposes from very short term to a much much longer regime.
