This business name, is it related to the activity you're involved in? Is is a funky fun name or is it just your name, your Jones Steel Merchant? Think about this, does it make any difference? The name of the company, whether it be the holding company or the trading name, think about it again. If it's just a holding company then it doesn't really matter. The trading name is important if you're in a daily competitive environment. How do you stand out? The name is one of those differentiation points, so really consider the name. Once you've decided on that name, obviously you need to register it with the company's organizations in your town or in your city, so it's officially registered as a tax sense of business. And of course think about your name on the Internet. Because again, you might trade on the Internet and then it becomes a little bit more complicated. So how do you actually become a registered name on the Internet? Well, it's what we call domain name. And that's when it becomes complicated because if you're business Jones Steel Makers for example, is registered on line by somebody else, you might have to think again. You need to obviously have a name that is unique to your business alone. And obviously one that used as a good use as a marketing tool. So you need to go on line to one of the search engines to find out whether or not your name is available. And it might be that your name for example is available, not as a dot com but as a dot net. Will that make any difference to your business? If your business isn't too Internet related then it's fine. If it's very Internet centered then you need to think about whether you want to have a country name at the end of it or a dot com. Is it a regional business, is it a national business, is it a local business? So think about all these issues but registering the name is actually a very positive thing and I wish you all the very best."
