Hello my name is Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg in Miami, Florida with Miami Dog Training. In this clip we are going to talk about how to train a dog to fetch and my first choice here is going to be our local coconut, a nice free easy ball to use with your dog especially here in Florida or anywhere tropical and Bullet likes to jump at them so what I'm going to do I am going to keep him on a leash in teaching him this because I want to control him coming back to me. If I tell him fetch, he goes and gets the ball and he walks past me that's not much of a fetch although he is picking it up but still not bringing it back to me. So with the leash I am able to control that. Bullet, go get it, alright. Now he didn't pick it up but I am still going to reward him for going to get it. As soon as it is in his mouth I'm going to praise him. The idea is repetition, repetition, repetition and you know just using that consistency and controlling him coming back to you. If he does pick it up and come back to you don't try to take the ball right away, praise him, just praise him for keeping that ball in his mouth. Once again this is Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg with Miami Dog Training.
