How to Kill German Roaches

"Hi I'm often asked how do I kill German roaches? Well I am going to help you with that. I'm Michael Piacenza with Advantage Pest Control. Well German roaches are one of the nastiest roaches to have. They duplicate themselves it seems like. They're gestation period is very short, they're egg sacs actually carry more eggs than any of the other types of roaches and unlike some roaches where they will glue their egg sac and leave it the German roaches carry it around with them so they protect it and they live in very small, not large, they're large colonies but small areas. So that's one of the problems with them is that they don't get all over the place so they are not going to get into the pesticides. You have to go to them. So how do you kill them? You have to find their harborage. Usually it is going to be in the kitchen around the food sources so you have got to get in and put some dust, a really good botanical dust or synthetic dust but I prefer the botanicals. Mineral based works real well like boric acid and get into every crack and crevice you can possibly find. They like tight spaces. They like to have their body touching both sides of the space when they are in harborage so the tighter the space the better to get in there and just dust it. Then you want to use a spray, a wettable powder and get all on the baseboards and underneath the cabinets and on the shelves. Now if you are going to get inside where there is food and plates that you are going to be cooking with again you want to use a botanical. I like the products from Eco Smart. They are very very safe and very effective. You can also use baits. Now one of the problems with baits is that a lot of the German roaches have developed an aversion to it and they just won't eat it, they will go right around it. They are coming down through the genetic pool and they have figured things out but you know it is funny when you use something like a boric acid they never ever figure that stuff out. It gets on them, they clean their body which they do a lot. They clean themselves continuously. They're antennas are like another set of eyes and if they get anything on there they are cleaning it off. It gets into their system. It screws up their digestive system and they starve to death so some of the botanicals will effect the neurotransmitters. You'll find them upside down and they have forgotten how to turn themselves right side up and they'll starve to death as well. So use a multi pronged approach and of course keep the area clean, get rid of all of the food sources. Seal things up so they can't get in. I hope this has been helpful. I'm Michael Piancenza.
