Hi, I'm often asked how do I get rid of chiggers? Well, I think we can help you there. I'm Michael Piacenza with Advantage Pest Control. Well chiggers, or red mites, are a parasitic animal in their first stage of larva. So that's really when we as humans have to worry about chiggers, or they get on our cattle, livestock, pets, is in that first stage. After that, as the adult, they're actually feeding on tiny little insects so there they are actually a good thing to have. So how do we get rid of them? Well, they live in the grasses, and over winter in the soil, and they climb up on the grass and get onto us in that way. So the best way to get rid of them is a preventative action. Keep your grass cut to under six inches. Keep the shrubbery cut back. If you're going to walk through areas where there has been chiggers you want to make sure you tuck your pants inside your socks. So prevention is the key here. And if they don't have anything to feed on then they're going to die off and you're not going to have as big of an infestation. So the way to treat them is they're in the soil, put down a registered pesticide. And I mean, you know, you want to make sure it's rated for chiggers. And treat the entire area, not just where you got chiggers alright? So you want to get the broad area and make sure that you wipe out the entire colony. And you'll probably have to treat them a couple of times. It's best to get them in the fall before they over winter in the soil, and then get them in the late spring and early summer as they're coming up and really getting rolling. I hope this has been helpful. I'm Michael Piacenza with Advantage Pest Control. Good day.
