So if I have a bucket full of water and mosquito larvae, if I just dump it will they die?

Hi friends I'm Mark Govan with ABC Pest Control in Largo, Florida. People asked us how do we get rid of mosquito larva? Well remember mosquitoes actually lay their eggs on still water and those eggs actually hatch into little larva called wigglers in the water. The number one way to get rid of them is to eliminate the source so by either tipping over the bird bath and refilling those areas on a regular basis, by draining the tires that we might have as swings outside the home that may have a little bit of water in the bottom of it or the pots when you have a pot underneath it the drain pan, if you can, you can eliminate the water from that on a regular basis that will kill the mosquito larva. Now what about people that have a little pond or a pool in the back yard and they want to eliminate mosquito larva from there. Well two ways, one if it is a pond and you get some gold fish the gold fish will actually eat the mosquito larva. If it is another little pool that you don't have any fish in that will actually eat the mosquito larva you can go ahead and use a highly refined horticultural spray oil and it only takes a couple of drops, dropped on top of the water of the pond and that will spread out over the top of the pond and it will stop the larva from being able to suck oxygen out of the air. So it's a very easy way to go ahead and control them plus there are a few biological controls that you can get at some of the do it yourself pest control stores or even some of the box stores carry the same products as well.
