Hi. My name is Charlotte Skiles, I'm a Nutrition Consultant and a Clinical Herbalist with Eat In Peace Wellness Consulting, located in Austin Texas. And, right now I'll be addressing the zone diet. So the zone diet is put forth by Barry Sears, who bases this diet upon a certain specific balance of macronutrients in the diet. So, your macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, and fats. And the idea here is that you design a diet that is based on 40% carbohydrate, 30% protein, and 30% fat. So, in essence, you're looking at 40% carbohydrates, and 60% protein and fat. This is a useful tool for designing a diet. It was one of the first books that I read, when I got into the health field. Upon how to create a health diet and Barry Sears' work has evolved over the years. At first, he didn't really distinguish between the quality of different types of carbohydrates, and now he does. So, you know a snickers bar is not the same as an apple. One carbohydrate, well, nothing is created all equal in terms of our food supply. So, but that's the gist of it, is looking at the diet in terms of percentages. Is this appropriate for everybody? No, I don't believe that any one diet is appropriate for everyone. It's an experiment to take on for an amount of time to learn about yourself. Apply the things that serve your body, and let go of the things that don't, and you can't go wrong in terms of finding the foods that are healthy for you. And that's what I have to say about the zone diet.
