"Hi my name is Charlotte Skiles. I am a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting located in Austin, Texas. And right now I'm going to be talking about what is the Zone diet? The Zone diet is a diet designed by a gentleman named Barry Sears. This is one of the first books I read when I got into the field of nutrition and it's the idea of designing a diet around a desired macronutrient content of each meal. Macronutrients are carbohydrates, proteins and fats. So the Zone diet is let's see, 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fat. So that's the way you design a meal or a snack is you make sure that those are represented accordingly. Now when Barry when first came out with his work, he didn't make a lot of distinctions in terms of the quality of these foods. A carbohydrate was a carbohydrate, a fat was a fat. Since then it's been fun to see his work evolve and him take on the quality of some of these foods once they're designed into the plan, that can be a very useful way for someone to learn about their body. And that's really all these diets are is an invitation to experiment. You read about them, you learn about them, you take them on for a temporary amount of time and you watch and observe your body and you see what shows up in your experience in this world. You take what you like and you leave the rest. There is no one answer for everyone, but I think that the Zone diet can be a nice starting point and a good way to experiment. And that's what I have to say about the Zone diet."
