Hi, my name is Charlotte Skiles. I'm a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting located in Austin, Texas, and today I'm going to be talking to you about medical uses for sea salt. A couple of things come to mind here. One is which is particularly relevant to Austin Austin's very hot summers is that you can add a pinch of sea salt to your water and that will help your body stay hydrated during the hot months. So, if you know you're going to be outside gardening, or for a concert, or whatever during the summer months that would be a very good medical use for sea salt. Just a pinch; enough to offer a slight salty flavor, but not too much. Just remember that water follows salt, so if you were to lay salt on your counter it would collect water. The same thing happens in the body, so that could be very useful there in terms of preventing any any problems. You could also gargle with a concentrated amount of sea salt and water in order to facilitate the health of the throat particularly if you feel something coming on, or it's just sore from being overused, talking too much or, you know, whatever may be happening in your body. That salt water gargle can go a long way to healing that tissue. You can also, I would consider another form of medical use for sea salt being just simply adding it to your food. We came from the sea, and quite frankly we are very deficient in the minerals that we used to get on a very high basis that we no longer get anymore, so simply using that sea salt in your food can go a long way to supporting the mineral status of your body. Now in particular, you want to buy sea salt that has a color to it, because that color indicates the mineral content. So, I like Celtic sea salt, C-e-l-t-i-c is a particular brand and company to order salt from. It's got a gray color to it that's very, very good quality. The other thing that you can use sea salt for in terms of a medical reason is adding it to a neti pot. A neti pot is a ayurvedic remedy for cleansing and irrigating the sinus cavity, so the salt really helps the body pull out, because remember salt collects things, pull out that extra mucous and all of those things that may be stored in there from your breathing during the day. And also last but not least, a medical use for sea salt would be simply adding it to your bath, and this would, once again, simulate the sea from which we came which is very beneficial for us. And those are the medical uses of sea salt that I'd like to share with you today.
