Hi my name is Charlotte Skiles. I am a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting located in Austin, Texas. And today I'm going to talk to you about the health hazards of plastic water bottles. Now these have really thrown a wrench in things so to speak because what happens is that as that product, that water bottle is shipped wherever it's being shipped, it gets hot and with that warmth, plastic molecules leech into the water that you're about to drink. Now I'm sure you've had the experience of leaving a water bottle in your car, it warms up and you go to drink your water and it tastes like plastic. That's what's going on, those molecules are leeching into the water with the heat facilitating that. So what are the health hazards? Well these particular molecules mimic estrogens in the body and what's happening in our environment is a proliferation of something called xenoestrogens meaning foreign estrogens. Estrogens that our bodies aren't making but that are in the environment and it's layering, it's just giving our systems a certain burden and one of the things that estrogen does in the body is that it increases cell proliferation so the waste cells are produces by the body increase. And quite frankly that's not something that we want. So that's the main health hazard of water bottles is that they mimic the estrogens in the body and increase our toxic burden. I mean for example the liver has to see everything going into the body and it has to basically deconjugate and unstructure all of these hormones that come in and so when we take in these external hormones in the form of plastic, it's really clogging up the body so to speak and that would be my biggest concern about these bottles physiologically in addition to the environmental impact that they have. So that's what I have to say about plastic water bottles and the health hazards of them.
