Hi, my name is Charlotte Skiles. I'm a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting located in Austin, Texas, and the topic today is how to do a mini cleanse with lemon in the morning. And this is a rather easy thing that anybody can do to facilitate the health of their bodies and well-being. So, what you would want to do is get a glass of water that's room temperature. So, the room temperature is important, even on the warmer side. Doesn't have to be hot, just warm. Traditionally speaking, the Chinese medicine refer to the stomach as being the seat of digestive fire in the body. The last thing you want to do is throw cold water on a hot fire in the body. You want to keep that digestive fire burning, so the fact that you're using warm water, room temperature water, is very useful here, and add the juice of one lemon to that water, and drink it down first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. And what you're going to facilitate there is good digestion. That lemon is a great, as you can taste it in your mouth it's sour and acid at the same time which makes sure that the pH in the stomach is proper. But even more important than that; all night long the liver is making a substance called bile and the gall bladder is storing it. Now, bile is very useful for the digestion of fats, and it acts as a soap breaking down large fat globules so that enzymes, lipases, can act on these particular macronutrients, okay? So then, you've got bile also grabs toxins out of the body and is responsible for moving the bowels and creating a bowel movement. So, all night long this process is going on; the liver's making bile, the gall bladder's concentrating it and storing it. So, in the morning that sour taste which the gall bladder just loves; you're waking up the system and honoring it in a way that's called moving with the circadian rhythm, the movement of physiology and organ systems during the day. You wake up first thing and you have that sour beverage, and the body says thank you very much. We're going to give you good digestion today and help the body cleanse itself. So, that is how I would recommend doing a mini lemon cleanse in the morning.
