Hi, my name is Charlotte Skiles. I'm a nutrition consultant and clinical herbalist with Eat in Peace Wellness Consulting, located in Austin, Texas, and the topic of today is how to cleanse the colon with safe results. And this is an interesting question, and I think, once again, it's to be determined on a case by case individual basis. Listen to your body and that is how you will determine how you cleanse the bowels and the colon with safe results. The minute you start to feel uncomfortable in your bowel movements you're pushing the body too hard, so it may be an inappropriate product or approach for your body, or it may be a little too much too soon. The things that happen in terms of of cleansing the bowel is you can have excessive bowel movements; you can be very crampy, bloated, and gassy, and just quite frankly be a bit miserable. I mean, we all know how it feels to to have our bowels not moving; either moving too much or not moving at all. And those would be my main concerns with how to do this safely is that you use good quality products in terms of making sure that if it's an herbal product it's it's coming, you know, the the herb on the label is the herb in the bottle, so you want to investigate the company and purchase these products mindfully. And in terms of doing it safely you just want to use common sense, so gentle is always better, and just listen to your body and it'll teach you how to do this do this safely. So, the things to think about are the most obvious ones are diet, hydration, and lifestyle, so make sure you're eating enough fiber; make sure you're hydrated. A good rule of thumb is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water a day, so someone that weighs a hundred and forty pounds would want to drink seventy ounces of water a day. And then also daily exercise and it doesn't have to be extreme. A nice walk will help facilitate bowel movements and the cleansing properties there. So, that's what I have to say about colon cleansing in a safe manner is just use your common sense and listen to your body.
