Cortisol levels in children with asthma symptoms. Hormone activated during stress; this is a hormone, Cortisol is a hormone that is activated during stress. It's also known as the fight or flight response. Corticosteroids hormones is from the adrenal gland and the body's response to stress, like I said with fighter flight response we've all heard that it's a fighter flight and that's that hormone kicking in; you have decrease levels with a mother with depression. There's been some studies on mothers that have been depressed that the child has decreased levels of Cortisol after a while and also repeated stress can cause the HPA to shut down. Now the HPA is Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal system and after a long period of time, this system will shut down. The Cortisol levels in children can also increase blood pressure, blood sugar with an increase of energy burst. Now to test these levels, it can be tested from saliva. So this is just a little information on the Cortisol levels in children with asthma symptoms.
