This is Lois Adams, President and CEO of Freedom Pharmacy and Wellness Centers in Orlando, Florida. Today's segment is going to be about Lexapro dosages. Remember Lexapro is the number two prescribed antidepressant in the United States and it is important to know a little bit about this drug. Dosing must start at one 10 mg. tablet every day and then your doctor may increase that to 20 mgs. every day. It is available also in 5 mg. tablets in a tasty peppermint flavored liquid for those who have problems swallowing a pill and there are many people who have problems swallowing pills and so this is a convenient way to be able to get the drug and its dose down in the patient. Lexapro should be taken at the same time every day and not one day in the morning and one day at night. A steady state is probably reached in about a week and that means you kind of reach where the dose is going to be but it may take between two and four weeks to fill the full benefits of this medication. People sometimes think that if they take a drug that within six hours we're going to have total relief and that simply isn't so especially in this kind of drug and that is what we know about Lexapro dosages.
