This is Lois Adams, President and CEO of Freedom Pharmacy and and Wellness Centers in Orlando. Today's segment is going to be about Zyprexa, and I'll tell you a little bit about the drug. Zyprexa is used as an anti-depressant, and also it's used to treat bipolar disease or manic-depressive psychosis. It does have some side effects which are not wonderful, and these side side effects include diabetes, which they have just found out, and it it causes cholesterol to rise. It also is contraindicated or is not indicated in patients who are elderly. It causes severe problems with that, and and it can cause heart attacks and strokes. Zyprexa has been on the market for a long time. There is no generic for Zyprexa, and it probably is one of the most expensive drugs that we have, and certainly raises the cost of the Medicaid program to treat patients who have schizophrenia and bipolar disease.
