About Naproxen

"This is Lois Adams, President/CEO of Freedom Pharmacy and Wellness Centers in Orlando, Florida and a Consultant Pharmacist. Today we're going to talk about, a little bit about the drug Naproxen. Theres is a generic name called Naprosyn which is about half strength; then so you would have to take two tablets instead of one to get the same effect. It's a medication use to reduce swelling and trick pain of arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, gout, dental pain and headache and the drug works very well. This is also use for the treatment of Paget's disease of, of the bones and Bartter's disease in which you have a; you don't absorb enough potassium. Like I said, it's available over the counter as a 220 mg tablet; two tablets taken together give a good relief from pain and inflammation. Do not take Naprosyn with Ibuprofen which is generic Advil because if you do, you are doubling up on a dose of an, of the brand of the drug. Do not smoke or drink alcohol when taking the medication as this will just increase irritation to your stomach. One thing about this class, this class of drugs, it does cause irritation and possible ulceration in the intestines. Improvement can be seen in about one week; then you can take up to two weeks or longer to see the full benefit of, of it. However, if you're taking the Naprosyn for headache or something like that, you can take it every six to eight hours, two tablets and you probably will get absolutely excellent relief. It comes as a regular tablet and in terra coded tablet which is extended release and in suspension for liquid. There are some people who prefer to take a liquid with this because they feel that it works better and faster. Take the medication twice a daily for arthritis and every six to eight hours for pain. Side effects are ulcers, bleeding in the stomach and bleeding in the intestines. And that is a little bit about the drug Naprosyn."
