"You're planning a trip and you've suddenly learned that you're going to need your birth certificate to obtain additional documentation to enable you to go on this trip, but you've never applied for a birth certificate before, so you don't even know where to begin. Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to answer the question: How to obtain a birth certificate. Well, perhaps the best place to start is to go on the website for the National Center for Health Statistics, and this website lists all 50 states and gives you a step-by-step process of what's required for each of those 50 states. And, of course, it's going to vary from state to state. But if you know the state in which you were born, you look up that state on this website, and then it will show you the application process. And the application process generally is going to entail that you are able to provide some sort of identification, the correct name, the date of birth, the sex, the city, county in which you were born, and the date of birth. And your relationship -- why you are obtaining this birth certificate because you're going to have to have a special relationship to obtain a birth certificate -- and so forth and so on. And it's generally spelled out on this website. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching."
