"You want to get a gun, specifically a pistol, and you've heard that you have to get a permit but you don't know anything about getting a permit because you've never owned a gun before. Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to answer the question: How to get a pistol permit. The United States Constitution affords American citizens the right to bear arms, and while you have the right to bear arms, every state has its own regulations and laws and procedures on what you have to do to get a permit to own and carry a gun. Now, while that varies from state to state, generally, you must go to a gun dealer or your local police department to apply for a permit. Then you must submit to a background check, which is definitely going to be a criminal background check, give your fingerprints and other identification data, and then attend a gun safety class that you not only must complete by attending the requisite number of hours, but also successfully pass and show your proficiency with the use of a gun or pistol. And then there is a waiting period, and this generally describes the procedure for getting a pistol permit. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching."
