"Hi my name is Kayti Brosnan. I'm a Registered Nurse here in Austin, Texas and today I am going to talk to you about ringworm and the causes of ringworm. First of all ringworm is not a worm it is a fungus that lives in warm moist places and so this can live anywhere on the skin. Often times you hear about it on the feet or the groin and this is considered jock itch or athlete's foot and this can also be on the scalp. It is highly contagious so you contaminate something, whether it is a comb, a wrestling mat, a lot of times you see it in athletic clubs or athletic sports in high school. They kind of contaminate one thing and then everyone gets it and it spreads. It can be on clothes. It can be on furniture or it can be from skin to skin contact and so those are some of the causes, some of the treatments are anti fungals or there are some homeopathic treatments that you can do including peppermint extract and those are some of the causes of ringworm."
