My name is Josie Minks and I'm a nurse in Austin, Texas and the question was asked, "Can benzoyl peroxide be used during pregnancy?" Benzoyl peroxide is a topical cream, can be in 2%, 5%, and 10% and its used to clear up acne during pregnancy, or outside of pregnancy. But only 5% of the cream is absorbed through the skin. So, it's also a class "C" classification in the pharmacology classifications, which means it has never been tested on pregnant women and so there is no "yes" or "no" answer to that question; however, only 5% of it is absorbed into the bloodstream and so that's not a high amount and so most doctor's would say, "Yes, it is okay to use benzoyl peroxide during pregnancy."
