My name is Josie Minks and I'm a labor and delivery nurse in Austin, Texas and I'm going to talk about how to treat jaundice during pregnancy. Jaundice is the breaking down of red blood cells and so treating jaundice, treating the breaking down of red blood cells is first determining what is causing this. And so, in pregnancy there are four potential causes of the breaking down of red blood cells. One would be pre-eclampsia and HELP syndrome. Another one would be an acute fatty liver in pregnancy. Another would be Hyperemesis. Another would be Intrahepatic Cholestasis in pregnancy. So, each of these have their own treatments that would ultimately treat jaundice in pregnancy. So, if you're noticing you're having yellow skin or any type of jaundice, immediately go to your doctor so he can determine what is the cause of this and what the treatment would be.
