"The best birth control is abstinence which means not having sexual contact with another person. So the way most birth control works, the barriers are obviously the barrier to allowing sperm from the male partner to enter the vagina and come in contact with an egg of the female and they have problems with leakage and coming off or not being fitted properly. So they are not a top choice of birth control. The hormonal types of birth control, the combination ones, mimic the female cycle and cause increased levels of hormones which either prohibit ovulation or the passage of an egg or don't allow the intrauterine cavity to develop into an acceptable environment while thickening and becoming more vascular in the mid portion and early portion of the female cycle such that a fertilized egg could become implanted in that fluffy tissue."
