I'm Miranda Chook, a CPA and we're going to talk about unclaimed IRS refunds. According to some resources, there are over a hundred and fifteen thousand checks totaling a hundred and ten million dollars that have gone undelivered to tax payers. That's an average nine hundred and fifty dollars per tax payer. Now the reason these go undelivered, most of the time it's due to unreported changes of address or changes of marital status or death. There are also millions of dollars that have gone unclaimed in two thousand eight's economic stimulus payment program where there was the one time payment of six hundred dollars or more to tax payers. So if you think that you have not received that tax stimulus payment for two thousand eight or part of your refunds that you may not have received yet, go ahead and contact the IRS. Now there are some other companies out there that say they can go and find unclaimed funds for you but before you pay your fee, make sure they have access to the U.S. Federal Government databases because those databases are separate from the state unclaimed services that a lot of those companies actually do have access for. In, in this case, it's probably easier just for you to go directly to the IRS.
