"I'm Steve Oxley from Denver Angler and the question is how to add tippet to fly fishing line but we don't add tippet to fly fishing line we add tippet to leaders and now I'm going to show you how to tie that knot. Now I'm going to show you how to add tippet to the fly fishing line but as we mentioned we don't add tippet to fly fishing line we add it to the leader. I'm holding the leader in this hand and about two feet of tippet in this hand. We are going to tie a knot called an improved surgeon's knot so we take about six inches of leader, six inches of tippet and put them together and then we make a big loop and it is basically an overhand knot and you put the tag end of the leader and the entire length of the tippet through the loop once, tighten it up slightly and then do the same thing again, tag end and tie the length of the tippet through again and then slowly pull it together and just before you snug it down, moisten it, that is to reduce the friction and make the knot stronger and then cut off the tag ends with your nippers as close as you can to the knot and that's how you add tippet to a leader."
