"I'm Steve Oxley from Denver Angler. Now I'm going to show you how to attach backing to a fly reel. Backing is a Dacron material. For freshwater fisherman it's usually twenty pound test. You usually get around a hundred yards onto a reel. Take it and wrap it around the arbor of the reel twice. Then take the backing and tie a square knot, as such, so it's around itself like that. Snug it down. Then in the tag end tie another square knot. That is what we really call a locking knot. Pull it down close to the other knot. That way it will prevent the backing from slipping through itself. Take the scissors, cut off the tag end close to the knot and snug it down onto the reel. That's how you attach backing to a fly reel."
