Hi, I'm Gary Reasons, former NFL linebacker. This topic is about cornerback play, and how you can be a better cornerback. Well, the most important thing you have to do as a cornerback is understand where you're at on the football field. Most times the cornerback is going to be all the way out on the outside of the defense, and you're the widest person out there on the field. So that everything may be inside of you. So as a cornerback, you kind of pull this down a little bit, let me get into a stance, here. Your body is going to come down, and you're going to have a receiver right here. One of the things that I have to be able to do is, I have to be able to see what is on the inside of me, here, with my peripheral vision. So a little bit of a peak, in and out. With a little bit of a head turn here, so you can see the ball and the line of scrimmage, but you can still see the receiver in front of you. Then you're going to have your legs ready to move backwards or forwards or in between, it doesn't matter. You're going to have good leverage. But you've gotta be able to see what's coming on here. You need to be able to determine very quickly run, or pass. That's going to be even critical for you to have good, successful play at the cornerback position. Keep the receiver in front of you, and understand what's coming from the inside.
