Hi, I'm Gary Reasons, former NFL linebacker. This topic is about how you can be a more effective runner and create separation from that runner and be elusive. Well, what you really need to do is, first of all, take care of the football with the proper technique of being able to grasp the football and hold it tight to your body. But as the defender comes near you, you're going to have your football at the opposite side of your body. If you're running to the right, you're going to be in this position. So if the defender comes towards you, the thing that you can do to be more elusive, is that you can use your opposite arm as a stiff arm, and you can contact the player. Contact the top of his head, which actually controls his entire body, use a shoulder pad or even sometimes a face mask. But, don't want to pull on that face mask, 'cause that could be a penalty against you. But you want to use that forearm and create separation, and then you can use your feet to be elusive and kind of roll right around him. So the biggest thing for you to be elusive as a runner, is, utilize your body position and your off hand as a stiff arm.
