Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment, we're going to talk about how to start an herb garden. The easiest way to start an herb garden, is to go into your kitchen, open a drawer, and look at all of the herbs that you have currently, and make a list, because those are the herbs that you already use in your kitchen, so why not grow those herbs in your garden? and next, you want to go into the garden center, or to a farmer's market, and pick out those herbs. Once you've selected your herbs, then you take them home, and you can select where you're going to put them in your garden, knowing that the larger herbs should be towards the top, and the smaller herbs towards the front of your beds, and then that way, there's lots of room, and then they can grow and multiply. Here are a few of my favorite herbs, so rosemary is a great herb, and it makes more of a shrub, so you want to put it in the middle of your bed, or somewhere where it's not going to block the light to the other herbs, because it's going to be one of the larger herbs in your garden. Small herbs like lemon balm, will make more of a ground cover. Those you want to put on the edge in the borders of your herb garden, because they're going to stay short, and they're pretty to trail over, and they don't take a lot of space, and they're not tall, so you want to keep them on the edges, and even herbs like marjoram, and thyme, are wonderful, and they kind of make a nice little borders as well, so I've found, is just to mix and match all of your herbs, and make sure and give them a little bit of room in between, because you don't want them to crowd themselves out, because they will multiply very quickly, and there's a lot of different types of herbs, like this dwarf oregano, that almost are unstoppable. They are great between rocks, or between your steps, or along the cement, because they make almost kind of a ground cover, so when you're selecting your herbs, and making an herb garden, make sure that you have a selection of taller plants, smaller plants, and type ground cover herbs, and that way, by mixing and matching all of your herbs, you can start a beautiful herb garden.
