Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment I am going to talk all about chestnut trees. The chestnuts are a wonderful, wonderful nut and they are very easy to grow. You can start them by the nuts or by a graft or by the root and the best place to plant them is in full hot sun. They need a real sunny location and good organic material, good compost or potting soil. Chestnuts are enclosed in kind of a burr sack and so when you know that they are ready to harvest, when you have got lots of them hanging in your chestnut tree and they just barely start to crack and when they crack the chestnuts will fall right out or they'll drop right out. You can actually take a stick and shake them out of the tree or wait for them to fall on to the ground and you can roast them and store them for many years and eat them all Winter long and you can roast them on the fire for Christmas and they are a great garden plant.
