Why is family lineage important in the Bible? Why did God take the time to go through, often to go through the lineage of different families to put each name of the respected fathers of different households in the book of Matthew for example when talking about the birth of Jesus he started from Jesus and went all the way down back to the beginning, back to Adam. Why, why is that important? It is important because God wants to establish a principle in the heart of the readers of the Bible. It is his constant hand being upon his people. It is a sign of God's continuity all throughout the word. All throughout the Bible we see it. There is reference to Abraham and Abraham's son, the son of, and then as they begin to talk about his children and then as we go we talk about Joseph and then his children and you see the different ones in the Bible always being mentioned and then their sons being mentioned and then the Father's of the sons being mentioned and things like that simply showing God's presence all throughout the Bible. Then if you look closely you see that it is intricately told about the different lives of these men and the effect that their lives have long after they are gone even upon their sons and their son's sons. So we see again God's hand all throughout history since the time of Adam even until now the Bible says that we even are the seed of Abraham. What is that doing? That is linking believers today together with Abraham from years ago. Why? Because God hasn't changed. The same covenant and the same policies that he had with Abraham we have today. They have been made real to use today. Why? Because we are kin. Because we are family. Because we are a part of that lineage.
