Hi, I'm Dr. Larry Klein. I'm a dentist here in St Petersburg, Florida. I get a lot of questions as far as mouth guards, and the advantages and disadvantages of hard vs. soft, custom vs. store bought. There are definitely a lot of advantages to the dental made ones, because they are definitely, they fit better, and probably more importantly, is they're hard, and they basically train the muscles not to be clenching together. The soft ones, or the store bought ones, or some of the boil and bite ones that you get in an athletic store, because they're soft, they actually train the muscles to be clenching together, which can actually aggravate the muscles, and cause more problems, as opposed to helping them, so if you have any questions about mouth guards, or night guards in general, feel free to call me, Larry Klein, here in St. Petersburg, Florida, where a smile is contagious.
