"Hi, I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb. How do you grow plants to make money. Well, we know a lot of nurserymen grow plants, and of course they sell their plants, and you can too. Some plants are easy to propagate. And let's take this little impatiens here. If you cut your impatiens back like we have here, and you stick it in almost any good potting soil; peat, perlite, maybe a little bit of builder's sand, your odds of getting it to root are about ninety nine percent. That's not a bad percentage. This plant will grow and it can be sold. A lot of churches, a lot of bazaars, a lot of backyard nurserymen grow some of their own plants; even something woody like this Ilex. You can take this Ilex; cut it as we just have, and come back in. Put it in some root tone which you can buy at any nursery, garden supply store. Keep it moist either with a little mister a couple of times a day, or put a little plastic bag over it like you might get from the newspaper. Keep that moisture level up and it should root. As it gets larger obviously it's worth more money. You can also start plants from seeds. Remember, if you get it up and you grow it; you've got a good product, eventually somebody's going to want to buy it. And that's one of the ways you can make money.
