What do people with diabetes look like? Hi. I'm Amy Bull. Professor and family Nurse Practitioner at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. People with diabetes look exactly like you and I do. They don't look any particular way, they look all ways. They're young, they're old, various ethnic groups. They are fat, they are thin. They are every person. That's why it's important to make sure that you get tested for diabetes if you have any of the signs and symptoms. For instance, excessive thirst, excessive hunger, excessive urination, extreme fatigue, sores that won't heal. Those are some of the common symptoms that people complain of. There are a lot of famous people who have diabetes that you know, that you may not know actually have diabetes. People like Randy Jackson of American Idol. Or, Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. Or, BB King. He does diabetes commercials. Or Patty Labelle. Or, Wilford Brimmley, who makes you eat your oatmeal. There are lots of people that have diabetes. So if you have any of the symptoms, make sure you get checked.
