"Hi I am Noah and I am going to show you how web hosting works. Basically when you pay a web host you are actually paying a company to rent hard drive space on one of their special computers used as servers which are on twenty four seven and always connected to the Internet so that people can access your website at all times. Theoretically you could use your own computer as your server host but then it would have to be on all the time and never crash or fail, that is why large hosting companies have these specialized computers used as servers which are very reliable and can stay on for days and days and weeks and weeks on end. Now there are lots of different types of web hosting. The most common perhaps is called shared hosting which is mainly used by small business and for personal sites. The price range for shared hosting is generally from five to fifteen dollars a month. This is the cheapest because basically it consists of you sharing a physical server with lots of other users. Then on the other hand for large businesses there is what is called dedicated servers where you have a whole physical server to yourself. This is much more expensive of course with prices generally from the one-hundred to four-hundred dollar price range. Now there is also a compromise between these two types of hosting called virtual dedicated servers. This might be ideal for medium sized businesses. Basically this is where you share one physical server but with a lot less people than you would with shared hosting so it is almost like you had your own dedicated server. The price range for this is also really compromised between the other two types with a price range around forty to say a hundred dollars per month."
