"Hello. I'm Dr. Deborah Wheeler; I'm the vice president of academic affairs at the Argosy University, on the Salt Lake City campus. I'm also a clinical psychologist, and today's topic is, how to get your child to sleep in their own crib. Of course, this is a challenging one for parents, but you want to make sure that you give the child a routine. Make sure that they know this is part of the bedtime process, and you can spend some time with them, making them comfortable, taking baths, reading stories. All of the things that lead up to something they can expect. Which is to sleep in their own crib. Make sure that you have a pleasant place. Make it comfortable, include their best toys and their favorite things in there, and make sure it's a safe, but comfortable place that they want to go. Make sure that if the child complains, cries, tries to crawl out, that you don't cave into their wants. If you want the child to sleep in the crib, they need to know that's the expectation, and you don't change your mind just because there's crying or fussing.
