With the emergence of Windows XP as the dominant operating system, a lot of adware was developed for it, and it's very easy for a computer to get infected by it, making it really frustrating to use because of all the advertisement. One way to remove adware from Windows XP is by going to 'start', and then 'control panel'. And then once you're in the control panel, by using the 'add or remove programs' tool. Once the list of programs is loaded, just look through it and try and see if you see anything suspicious. If you have any doubts about any program, simply search for its name on the internet and see if it's a recognized adware threat. Of course, removing adware manually in this way might not be enough. So you might need to turn to a spyware and adware removal program. You can try Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, which is free, as well as Spybot's Search and Destroy, which is another good free program. Finally, you can also use Microsoft's anti-spyware and adware tool called Windows Defender. This program usually works very well on Windows XP for removing adware and other such threats."
