Hello I'm Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, board certified dermatologist, and author of "Six Weeks to Sensational Skin." This clip is about what is azelaic acid. Azelaic acid is a compound which we as dermatologists know can be a very, very good when used topically in the treatment of acne. And actually there are two prescription products that have been developed for acne that are based on azelaic acid. The first is called Azelax, and interestingly enough that was a twenty percent azelaic acid product, which came to market several years ago, but did not prove highly effective. And then another manufacturer made a product called Phoenicia, which is fifteen percent azelaic acid. But in vehicle or a gel system where it penetrates very well into your pores and through your skin. So if you're interested in azelaic acid to treat acne ask you doctor for a Phoenicia prescription.
