Hello, I'm Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, a board certified dermatologist and author of Six Weeks to Sensational Skin. This clip discusses acne on the back. And basically often times we think of acne as being a facial problem but we dermatologists do see people with breakouts on their back and very typically also that would be on their shoulders as well. Sometimes the true term for this is folliculitis but these are acne like lesions that take place on your back and shoulders. It's very commonly related to working out. So when I see a patient who has back acne or folliculitis, I will ask them if they workout and if you do workout and are getting back acne, then please be sure to minimize the amount of time that perspiration stays on your skin. So if you're in a gym or a home workout situation, be sure to take a nice cool shower the moment that you complete your workout session. This can be very helpful in minimizing your acne. Also look for something like a salicylic cleanser to keep in your shower to minimize your back acne. This is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo.
