Hi, I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk about how to teach sight words. Sight words are words that may not follow all of the words of pronunciation. The sounds might be different than what would normally be expected in phonics. The best way to teach students sight words is to have them memorize them. You can create a list sent home with the students and have their parents work with them. And also that can be part of your daily reading practice, is to review some of the sight words. Flash cards are a really helpful way to learn sight words because they often have to be memorized and then they become easier for students to read immediately because they'll have memorized them and recognize them right away. So, encouraging a lot of practice at home, repetitive review of the sight words and using flash cards both at home and at school are good ways to teach sight words.
