"Hi, My name is Dave Andrews. Today I'm going to show you haw search engines are used. Let's go to our computer. I'm going to pull up the major search engine that most people think of when they think of the Internet and that is Google. Click on the start button. Then we are going to click on Internet Explorer. To access Google, type in the address bar here at the very top, www.google.com. It's pulled up the Google search engine and I can type some kind of question or something I'm searching for such as cars in to this little box right here and then click on Google search and that will return a list of websites that have information about cars. So you can see there is all these links. Some of them have some pictures that I can click on. Basically the Google search engine has copied pages that have details about cars and it provides me with a link to those pages. So if I just click on this one here for instance, I'm going to that page right there about cars. So lets go back and lets say I want to search for computer science. This is a little more advanced query that we want to do. Lets say we want only want to search college websites for this one. To do so, type your query then space and lets type site colon EDU for educational. Say Google search. Now this is returning only pages from .edu sites such as Stanford.edu that have to do with computer science. This way you can kind of take your search terms and control what sites its actually searching and also the type of websites it is searching all in one fail swoop with just a single search query. My name is Dave Andrews and I've just showed you a little bit how a search engines work."
