"Hi, I'm Kelli. I'm an aesthetician and makeup artist at Ulta Salon and Cosmetics, and I'm going to show you how to apply foundation. The first thing you want to do when you're applying your foundation is you want to make sure you have the right color. So, what we're going to do is we're just going to take a little bit of foundation; we're going to stripe it from cheek to jaw, just kind of blend it out a little bit. Basically, your foundation should melt into the skin. You shouldn't have to work hard to blend it, and it shouldn't leave any line of demarcation along the jaw. So, that one blends in really well. It's a really good color for her. So, we're going to take a pump of our foundation, and I like to apply it with a foundation brush. Feel like you get a much better blend. You also use a lot less product, and you can get better coverage. So, we're going to start on her forehead, and we're just going to apply the foundation in downward strokes. Applying it in downward strokes helps to actually smooth the look of the pores, and keeps the makeup from settling in the pores. So, you want to think when you apply your skincare you're going to apply it in an upward motion. When you apply your makeup you want to apply it in a downward motion. The nice thing about a brush as well is it really enables you to get into smaller areas, like around the nose or around the eyes, so you can get better coverage. I also prefer a brush to a sponge because you use a lot less of the product. Your sponges have a tendency to waste a lot of your makeup, and they also harbor a lot of bacteria. So, that's how you would want to apply your foundation."
