My name is Christine Marquette, and I'm a registered and licensed dietitian with Marquette Nutrition and Fitness, and I've been asked about Lipo-6 facts. Lipo-6 is a product that is generally marketed as a fat burner. It is very popular in bodybuilding circles, and like a lot of other products, that "6" in the name basically indicates that it has six different products within it -- six different ingredients, if you will. In this particular fat burner, it has green tea extract, it has a couple of other things that are stimulants -- similar to ephedra, basically ephedra replacements, since ephedra has been banned in the United States and is not to be used in the marketing of any type of weight loss or fat burner supplement. So again, it has six different ingredients to it. It's something that has been reported to help with reducing body fat, helping to decrease appetite, helping with weight loss. However, because it is a supplement, there haven't been a lot of studies done on this particular brand as of yet. There haven't been a lot of clinical trials done in humans to see if it truly does reduce your body fat or decrease your appetite or enhance weight loss. So for that reason, it's not something that I can recommend as a weight loss aid. It is something because it does have six different ingredients, if you're taking any type of medications, it would be better to avoid this particular supplement. There is a potential for interaction with medications with some of the ingredients in this particular supplement. If you're perfectly healthy, you're not taking any type of medication, there isn't necessarily that risk as far as interaction. However, again, there's no guarantee that this particular product will actually help you lose weight. The other thing you need to keep in mind is with supplements, there is...they're very loosely regulated, so there's no guarantee that the product that you purchase actually has the ingredients that it says it has on the bottle. It could very well be contaminated. It could have those ingredients in different amounts. It may not even have those ingredients in it at all, so that's something to keep in mind with any supplement. You want to be very cautious with what you put in your body. And with Lipo-6, again, there's not any proof that it actually does work as a fat burner or as an appetite suppressant or as a weight loss supplement.
