Hello my name is Bill Rae. I'm with Alumni Financial Services. I've been in the business of the finance world for well over 20 years. And your question today is when can I cash a Patriot bond? Excellent question. A Patriot bond is very much like an EE bond issued after December, 2001, approximately 2, 3 months after September 11th. The reason for the Patriot bond obviously was to allow a portion of that bond to go into fighting terrorism. So a Patriot bond is just like any other bond in the finance world, it's a debt security in which an authorized issuer agrees to pay the holder meaning someone who borrowed the money agrees to pay it back in a certain time and at a certain interest rate. When it comes to the Patriot bond, the Patriot bond generally can be redeemed after 1 year it is purchased and if you purchased it in 2001 and you get full face value in 5 years, well I'd say it's safe to redeem it. As always, we advise you seek out sound competent licensed advisers. My name is Bill Rae, I'm with Alumni Financial Services and we're here to help you build wealth.
