"Hi, my name is Bill Rae. I'm with Alumni Financial Services. I've been in the business and the finance world for well over 20 years, and your question is: How much is my savings bond worth? Well, that's an excellent question. I should tell you, perhaps, the best place to find out what your savings bond is worth is to go back to who issued it to you and ask them directly. They should have a telephone number or, at least, a website you can find out. Now, one other thing you might want to understand is a bond, in the finance world, is a debt security issued by an authorized entity to a holder, meaning you loan them your money, they agree to pay you back your money plus interest. What's it worth? Depends upon what type it is. Is it liquid? Is it traded on the market? My suggest: Take a look at who issued it to you and give them a call first. So if you're looking to find out the ratings, if you will, well, then that's another story, and there's plenty of places you can look to find out. Moody Bond, for instance, on the Internet has wonderful ways of you to go in and find out the holder of your bond. Are they...are they a good company, is it a high risk, et cetera, et cetera? They have a whole rating system that you can look on and they explain that to you, also. But to determine the...what your savings bond is worth, you really need to go to the holder of the bond."
