"Hello, I'm going to talk to you just briefly about what is respiratory therapy. Respiratory therapy is the treatment of those patients that have a breathing disorder under a license physician. You would be able to deliver and administer respiratory care to patients whether it's for their on a ventilator and they can't breath at all by themselves; it entails putting the tube down so that you can connect them to the ventilators with the indoor tracheal tubes. You'll also assist with tracheotomist. You could also assist with and administer oxygen therapy; nebulizer therapy with different types of medications. You would also be able to administer testing such spirometry and arterial blood gases to check the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels and the pH within the blood levels. It would also entail that you would be monitoring pressures and lands for arterial pressures. It also entails being able to administer anything under physician's care and the cardio-pulmonary department. Many times respiratory therapy now is combine with cardio-pulmonary. So you could work in hospitals, nursing homes, home care, medical flights, children centers, schools, doctors, offices and wherever there's a breathing problem, you would certainly be needed. This just gives you a little bit about what is respiratory therapy and again, it's the administration and the care of being able to take care of patient with breathing problems under a license physician."
