"Hi, I'm Rachel Yatuzis, and I'm going to show you how to remove rust from iron. You want to have some salt and some vegetable oil handy. This is an old cast iron lid, and as you can see, it's quite dirty, it's got some rust in it. You want to mix equal parts vegetable oil, and salt, to make a good, abrasive mixture. Just kind of eyeball it, and once you start working with the mixture, you'll be able to tell if you need to add a little more salt, or add a little more vegetable oil. Salt is really just the abrasive substance in it, that really gets down, and scrubs the iron really well. Just work it around, it will usually come off very quickly, and once you're finished scrubbing it really well, you want to wash your cast iron, just like you would any other dish. Use some dish soap, and a sponge. You might want to scrub it a little bit. After you rinse it, you want to dry it off. If you feel like you need to repeat anything, then feel free. That's it. I'm Rachel Yatuzis, and that is how you remove rust from iron."
